We were checked out and on the road by 9 am on the way to the Apache Trail. The Apache Trail is a 72 km scenic mountain road up to the Theodore Roosevelt lake. Twe ty seven kilometres in is a small town called Tortilla Flat where we stopped for an early lunch.
The road climbed even higher into the Superstition Mountains on a dirt road until you get to the dam. The scenery is spectacular.
Luckily, the way back is a paved highway which led us to Florence for a stay overnight at the Blue Mist Motel. This hotel is so blue that you have to see it to believe it.
Heading for Tucson tomorrow.
