March 12 Thursday Santa Fe

Cristo Rey church is one of the largest adobe structures in the country. The church contains a hand carved stone altar dated to 1761. Driving out there on Canyon Road showcased many, many art galleries and a few eateries.

Back in town, the San Miguel Mission Church was constructed in 1610, thought to be the nation's oldest active church. The hand carved altar screen dates to 1798. The San Jose bell is displayed in the church and visitors are welcome to ring it.

Beside the mission is the "oldest house in U.S.A. It is not open for visitors.

Also in town, the State Capitol building is designed in the shape of the state's official emblem, the Zia sun symbol and features a permanent collection of artworks and furniture.  Our guided tour took about half an hour and then we sat in the galley of the House of Senate. Today they were discussing "Snow plow drivers appreciation day" which they are trying to implement in March. Several men from this occupation were represented as guests and they had left their snow plow parked out front.

This afternoon we enjoyed the pool and hot tub in our motel.
We had dinner across the street at a restaurant called Souper Salad. It was cafeteria style, good soups and a salad. We even got our own low cal ice cream for desert.
